Grief and Loss Counseling in San Jose & Santa Cruz

Grief is the experience of coping with loss. Most of us think of grief as happening in the painful period following the death of a loved one or pet. But grief can accompany any event that disrupts or challenges our sense of normalcy or ourselves — including loss of a meaningful relationship, home or community, job or career, financial stability, a dream or goal, good health, youth, or fertility.

An Approach to Heal From Loss

One may also grieve their own loss of life as they prepare for death. People diagnosed with terminal illness often grieve the loss of experiences and things that they can no longer achieve. Grief can be varied and complex — everyone grieves in their own way, in their own timing, but sometimes working through grief requires professional help.

If grief is interfering with your ability to live your life, or your symptoms have not improved, it may be time to reach out to a professional. At Anxiety Treatment Services, we help you process often confusing and conflicting emotions including feelings of guilt, anger, regret, apathy, confusion, self-blame, sadness, and relief.

How We Can Help

EMDR and CBT can be helpful approaches to heal from loss, as well as talking with an empathetic individual such as one of our therapists or participating in group support.

You don't have to carry grief alone.
